Besnate, in the Varese hinterland the project insists on a diffuse post-war condition: the casa e bottega, a building type that conflated domestic life and small-scale production under a single roof. The apartment occupies the former offices of a family construction company, housed in a 1970s prefabricated shed.The structure belongs to a recognisable lineage of Italian industrial building: precast concrete elements of the so-called sistema Varese, a hybrid of standardised spans and site-specific assembly typical of the construction industry between the 1950s and 1970s. It is the same system that, on the exterior, separates the dwelling from the warehouse through a full-height portal — a prefabricated tympanum formed by the same reticulated beam that reappears inside, marking the threshold between the two volumes of the compound. Within, these trusses define the full depth of the space. At the time of the intervention, they were entirely concealed: suspended flat ceilings had parcelled the interior into offices and storage rooms, suppressing the geometry above. The project begins with an act of exposure, removing the false ceilings — the structure, once revealed, becomes the primary ordering device of the new dwelling. Two previously disconnected levels are joined into a single unit. The intervention does not impose a new spatial logic onto the existing shell, but proceeds by precise, localised insertions that negotiate between the inherited geometry and the requirements of domestic life.On the ground floor, the demands of new building services required the complete renewal of the floor — an opportunity taken to lay a continuous resin surface that enters into chromatic dialogue with the exposed concrete trusses above, unifying the entire level into a single base. From here, the living zone opens as a continuous space — kitchen, dining and living — from which two vertical connections of opposite character depart. Urban furnishings are inserted as fragments of a coherent language, never overpowering, always accompanying the gestures of collective life.At the heart of the square, a vast urban void unfolds — a quiet, unencumbered surface that seems to wait, suspended, for life to inhabit it. This emptiness is intentional: a space stripped to its essence, returned to the city as a place of gathering and recognition. It becomes a mutable stage where civic celebrations, open-air concerts, religious processions, and local festivities can all take place in turn. The latter is the one whose potential currently is the least developed. The analysis of the natural mechanisms existing within the Lama and the study of its complex biology generate exchange models that, once implemented and replicated, could contribute to reinforcing the biodiversity with positive effects on environmental quality, urban livability, and economic processes. Bitonto. The system of the squares of Bitonto can be seen as an urban breach in the compact urban fabric of the city. Particularly,&nbsp; the Via Cela bike lane&nbsp; that connects Bitonto with Alta Murgia National&nbsp; Park crosses&nbsp; the north area of&nbsp; the&nbsp; two hamlets: the&nbsp; goal is&nbsp; to intercept the&nbsp; fluxes&nbsp; of people&nbsp; visiting&nbsp; the countryside&nbsp; by&nbsp; proposing them as&nbsp; intermediate&nbsp; stops in&nbsp; the discovery of the territory, and to establish contacts between local product companies and outside visitors. Designed for a young couple, the project entailed renovating three rooms of the grandparents’ former residence to create an independent apartment. The overarching objective was to harmonize the building’s energy efficiency requirements with the retention of certain poignant features associated with the couple’s memories. The primary aim of the project was to enhance the building’s energy efficiency through internal insulation (to preserve external embellishments) and the installation of a new radiant floor. To this end, connecting the city center to the valley is important physically, trough routes that facilitate ascent/descent into the valley, and by providing the city with an attractive and varied programmatic offer. The theme of the price was related to the architectures of knowledge and learning about the context of Biella and it’s territory. We have been entrusted with a client and a specific task, we were asked by a non-professional group of actors to design a series of scenic devices for a theatrical performance inside the cloister of a priest's parsonage in Campiglia Cervo (a small village close to Biella, Pedimont). Despite a relative distance from the city of Biella, climbing the narrow road to the Alta Valle we noticed a rapid transition of human and natural environments. The huge woolen mills and their smokestacks that populate the river front, to the now abandoned granite and syenite quarries and a constellation of small villages.About thirty minutes northward from the Fondazione Sella&nbsp;we come to our project area, Campiglia Cervo. This village is the real beating heart of the Bürsch&nbsp;(dialect name for this valley) and it is the crossroads between the religious, historical and civic components of the valley. The village is articulated with two compact frontages on the provincial road, a few businesses occupy its ground floors, and the Town Hall and the immense bell tower of the Parish Church of S. Bernardo e Giuseppe&nbsp;stands out among the fine buildings. In a bend of the river in a lowered position from the road is the square of Campiglia Cervo and its main buildings. In this sleeve are in fact the Church, the Campiglia Cervo Rectory (Parish House) and the elementary school (formerly the Technical Institute wanted by engineer Mazzucchetti as a training school for "stonemasons"). The village occupies a central position in what is the Pluto of the Cervo Valley, a geological formation of circular outcropping magmatic rock, from which the inhabitants extracted granite and syenite, became the economic engine of the valley. performed by&nbsp;Teatrando, inside the rectory cloister. The show will be part of the La Bürsch in Festival&nbsp;event, a review of musical and theatrical performances that for the year 2022 will focus on the theme of the Cervo&nbsp;Valley&nbsp;Baroque. The theme of the performance added an additional conceptual layer that guided us in formulating our project. The themes of surprise, discovery, celebration and fiction have, slowly, begun to settle in and influence the design decisions we have made. Our project aimed to direct the visitor toward progressive discovery from the churchyard to the rectory garden and at the same time to be an open scenic device that could also be useful in multiple situations and with its own life beyond the summer performance, something that could be remodeled for different uses. The spirit of adaptation and the need to wander are characteristics that have always characterized the people of this valley. Famous for their dexterity and quality in working with stone the Valìt, they have moved all over the world to take part in great construction enterprises. <img width="4528" height="3017" two distinct sides, one characterized by the structure of wood, metal, and stone (syenite), the other by a continuous curtain. Stone plays a rather important role in the project, it manages to be the main static element and still be a generator of contemporary meanings. By resorting to cutting and repositioning unused cantonments taken from the garden, the stone becomes the structural base to "ballast" the iron and wooden structures to the ground. From a structural element, syenite also becomes the artistic theme to characterize the curtain that hides the central space of the rectory. The photographic project of&nbsp;Alex Strekeisen&nbsp;(geologist Alessandro Da Mommio) starts from microscopic observation of portions of stone to arrive at some high qality images that we have printed in large format as a scenography, generating an unexpected and abstract vision. The historic center is naturally grafted onto the highest parts of this hillaccording to a North–South axis. Although Cantù is a medium-sized city (the second for inhabitants in the province), it still enjoys the condition, often absent in other cities in the area, of not being conurbated with other urban centres, surrounded by a green belt that mostly belongs to the Brughiera Briantea Park. This important naturalistic area connects Cantù in form of natural ecological corridors, towards the Prealps to the north through the Spina Verde Park that connects it to the hills of Como. Being in a strategic position between the Prealpine area of Como and the Brianza lakes (with a tourist vocation) and the lower Brianza, fulcrum of a dense production district, the city must make sense of its potential to renew its internal (citizens) and external (tourists) allure. The crest of the hill, which runs North-South, divides the two main eastern and western suburbsconsisting of mainly mixed residential and industrial areas, characterizing the most populated portions of the city. In recent years, instead of representing a centralizing element, the hill has mostly represented a caesura in the city road flows, favoring the centrifugal forcesthat have led to an increasing shift of commercial activities on the main arteries outside the city (the Canturina road, for example, and the Canturina Bis, still under planning), to the detriment of the local trade network to the center. These main automobile road axes lie in the valley and in themselves constitute a strong boundary between the city and the natural environments that surround it. Not all of these potentials are currently enhanced, but the hill still has internal areas with ample possibilities for regeneration: some sectors such as the De Amicis (for which a PII is envisaged) and the areas behind the Castello di Pietrasanta, once revitalized, will be spring forth a new network of (potentially continuous) city and semi-public green spaces ( a sort of path upon the hills, linked to education and gree anreas) , but also individual abandoned or underused buildings have the potential to enrich the cultural value of the city. Buildings already to be renovated in the FuLaWiM project (Furniture And Lacework Widespread Museum) such as the former church of S. Ambrogio and Villa Calvi, but also the former Lux cinema or the new Palazzo della Permanente Mobili have such spatiality that they will be able to expand the network of cultural offers. Functionally, therefore, one can reason according to a process of reactivation of individual compartmentsand a systemization of the same subjects to create a real diagram of thematic itineraries and interchange areas, which can outline the city center and connect other parts of the city by a functional point of view. The activation strategy of the historic center is grafted according to a relationship between the main social, cultural and economic actors of the city that is both on a physical and a systemic level at the same time, reinforcing the idea of the Cantù hill as a place of cultural, commercial and leisure attraction, and trying to target and highlight the possible hidden itineraries inside the center and which can be propagated outside. The project of the public space assumes the role of ordering elementof the functional and identifying program of the center, anticipating the activation of the processes of the strategic areas and activating new ones on the social scale. Through a unitary strategy applied to public spaces it is possible to strengthen the identity and cohesion of the center of Cantù. A new system of open spaces connects historic spaces with developing sectors, valued as potential resources for the urban and environmental regeneration of the city. This new system of open spaces favors soft mobility, reinforces the presence of the landscapeas an element of identity and gives new life to some key places in the city. It must interface directly with its surroundings to create an urban reference point that connects public cultural places, paths, green areas and the commercial system of the DUC. The center of Cantù must regain its identity as a living centre, on a human and sustainable scale, in order to give back to the citizens the possibility of reliving forgotten and neglected actions such as walking, stopping, playing, experiencing public space in an intuitive way to favor a peaceful, functional, active coexistence. The two slopes of the hill (greater on the West-East line and lesser on the North-South axis, ridge and mid-slope lines) are associated with two different mechanisms of penetration towards the center, with the identification of two different axial systems: Transversal axes of fast and vehicular penetration, and Longitudinal ridge axes with slow and sustainable mobility. A series of roads which from East to West connect the residential and external areas to the center and on which stand the main parking area, have to be conceived more and more according to the logic of interchange points. The stepped conformation of the hill (partly natural and partly shaped by man over the centuries) can accommodate hybrid interchange spaces by mixing the numerous car parks with spaces where more flexibility can be provided by interpreting them as actual balconies overlooking the valley.. The axes of greater pedestrian, cycling, and public traffic, in addition to innervating the center, will see an interchange towards the two stations, strengthening the shuttle network between the two stations and the center, tracing the historical foundations of the tram route that once connected Cantù with Como and Asnago. The aim is the reduction of traffic enhancing pedestrian paths and neighborhood proximity, striking a balance between transport systems by understanding the reality of a transition that cannot be radical and sudden, but which must be put into operation today to determine the quality of tomorrow's public space.
